Last weekend, the big day finally arrived--we finished Cole Reynolds' big boy room makeover. We had bought a new light, new bookshelf, new play rug (to complement Cole's obsession with downtown--more on that later) and new BIG BOY bed. Joel really thought it was time. Me, not so much, but I didn't feel strongly enough about it to push for keeping the toddler bed. As Cole Reynolds is currently in his fireman period, we got fireman sheets and a fireman bed quilt. He loves it. He sleeps on TOP of the bed quilt most nights (instead of under the sheets and quilt) because he likes to look at the pictures. We got rid of the dresser (which was actually my dresser when I moved to Dallas in 2000) and got him a big bookshelf that has some drawers and doors for his clothes and bins at the bottom for his toys. Joel also got the picture above the chair, which, although a little dark, is pretty neat because it has pictures of all kinds of things to teach him his alphabet. We need a little bit of artwork to go over his bed, but otherwise, I think we are set for a few years.
As I mentioned above, Cole is obsessed with his "downtown". In fact, his room is downtown. For his birthday, he got a set of "town" blocks. He has added a few people and vehicles to the town as well. It is up almost every day, and it is the bane of his existence when Gemma is within a 10 foot radius of his room because he is petrified that she will wreck his town. The rug has roads and streams and such to complement his town set up. The train tracks usually go around the rug and downtown but sometimes lead into downtown. That Lego structure on the table next to his chair is the fire station. It's a double double (meaning 4 bays). He also has the transformer fireman station on the floor next to the town.
