CR Takes Flight!

Today we went to the Frontiers of Flight Museum. It was a big hit. When Cole Reynolds hears a plane or you point to a picture of one, he motions with his hand that they fly in the air with sound effects. There was a lot of this at the museum--primarily for the planes that were hanging from the ceiling. He also sat in a fighter jet pilot's seat--he loves to buckle up. I'll post a picture of that if I ever download any pictures.

Cole has a few more words that I wasn't aware of. He has a little book of prayers, and at the end of each prayer, as you can imagine, it says "Amen". When I read "Amen" he responds with his own little Ame (think short "a" sound at the beginning rather than a long "a" sound). Ironically, he calls me the same thing. After today's discovery I would tend to think that he's been praising the Lord all this time instead of calling me by my first name but context clues would suggest otherwise. Additionally, Cole says "vuelta" (turn around). Elena, the nanny, had told me this, but today when I was reading a book to him that had a little boy going around and around on the merry-go-round, Cole Reynolds said "vuelta". Cole also says "leche"--that's what we call his formula. He will even point at pictures of juice and say "leche". Oh well, close enough. His favorites, which are only loosely words, are "wow" and "uh oh". "Wow comes up a lot. Probably because he is mimicking Joel and me. "Uh oh" comes up when we are reading for the most part. If a character is on his head or doing something else silly, Cole says "uh oh". Finally, Cole says "owie". Really, it's more like "aiwee", but I know what he means.

Aside from our good day at the museum, today was good and bad on a health front. Good first. Cole drank 21 ounces of "leche". I'm amazed and so excited. Knock on wood, but I think he may actually like it. Maybe not love it, but certainly he doesn't mind it so much. This is great news and hopefully will be our first building block to getting off the tube. Now the bad. Cole vomited four times today. We don't know why exactly. Partially, I think it is a gag reflex to food that he doesn't want to eat, but that only explains one/two of the four vomits. The other two/three vomits came after drinking his formula. Each of those vomits came immediately on the heels of a "solid" food feeding, so there may still be some correlation, but we just don't know. The other bad thing is that Cole does not want to eat solid food. Eating it with Joel and me is even worse. At least for Elena he will eat 4 to 6 jars of food. For us, it was painful to get him to eat about 3.5 jars. He will lick other solid food like berries, grape tomatoes and apples, but he isn't really swallowing anything--even somethings that he did swallow last week like puffs. We pray that this does not continue. We'd love to report progress on eating in addition to the great progress on drinking his formula. As soon as we are there, we can lose the tube. Praying that the food therapy works--and fast.
