I knew that I would be manning the parenting ship alone this past weekend while Amy was away at her silent Catholic retreat. Thinking ahead, I picked up a Police Helicopter Lego set for Cole and I to assemble while GG napped on Saturday afternoon. These would be Cole's first real LEGO's not DUPLOS, so I didn't know how well it would go. I have no idea why I would ever question Cole, he is the one of the more determined, detailed orientated people I have ever meet. We spent about 45 minutes assembling it the first time. I made him look at the instructions, identify the pieces and count the number of little raised, round LEGO bumps so that he put each piece in the right place. I have never seen such focus and intensity in a 4.5 year old. I felt like you could see the synapses forming in his brain. Regardless, we finished the helicopter and he played with it for about 2 minutes before he asked if we could take it all apart and put it back together again. I asked why and he said that building it was so much, I want to do it again. So we disassembled it and within 15 minutes it was back together again. The whole experience went so well, that I bought him a $5 LEGO police motorcycle for him to assemble after his upper GI scope this past Monday, 9/15, which also happened to be Amy's birthday. I love my little builder. Thursday, September 18, 2014
