Cole had an 8:30 am soccer game which apparently is a bit too early for both his schedule and mine, so needless to say he missed the big game. Though I think his sacrifice worked out well for the the family as we were able to head out to the Dallas Arboretum Saturday morning after Amy returned triumphantly from her Bar Method class, little did we know then that this would turn out to be such a banner day for Amy. After purchasing regular entrance tickets it dawned on me that a yearly membership was roughly only 65 dollars more than what we just paid to get in one time. It had dawned on Amy immediately upon reading the prices at the gate but she decided to let me figure it out at my own speed and not crush me with her superior intellect. The kids loved the Children's garden and we had to drag them kicking and screaming out to go to lunch, despite the fact that they were in complete meltdown mode due to hungry. Truth be told, the whole Roman family had entered a state of "Hangry" by this point.

Luckily, the way back from the Arboretum goes right by our old house on Mockingbird Lane and also Big Shucks. We gave the kids a driveway tour of the old house, which only Cole comprehended. The place looked great, the new owner had put in new windows, doors, roof and other upgrades. However, a Pan-Texas Ash tree that Amy and I had planted was the most sentimental feature. The little plant that I brought home in a 5-gallon pot had grown into a beautiful mature tree. Big Shucks was equally awesome with Amy's favorite shrimp cocktail and fish tacos complimented by Joel's famous spicy cocktail sauce (you blend your own cocktail sauce at Big Shucks). No if only the Sooner's field goal kicker/quarterback had not thrown the K-State game the day would have been perfect (which we actually got to watch the 2nd half at Big Shucks - DVR is broken so this was our only hope to see any of it).
