Today we drove from La Fortuna (Arenal Volcano Region) to Quepos (Pacific Coast town approx. in the middle of the country), which took about 5 and 1/2 hours of white-knuckling, pothole dodging, constant gear-shifting to go about 200 miles. By the end trip the Crapido had beaten us and we traded her in for a small Ford SUV (with a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine vs. the 1500 cc motor of the Crapido). Honesty it feels like a Range Rover at this point.
Before we hit the road, I took my last outdoor shower in the little shower garden attached to our room. I don't know what it is, but there is something intoxicating about being naked, outside, clean and refreshed. It's a shame these would only work for about two months a year back in Dallas, the rest of the time its either too hot or too cold.
The photos below are of the beach just south of Jaco and of the sunset looking out the window in our room (double click to enlarge - if only it were always that easy).
