Photo Journalism

Today we rafted Sarapiqui River and since they say pictures are worth a 1,000 words, I will let them do the talking. Before I begin, I want to give Amy a little credit because she is not too fond of water and she did great and was undoubtedbly the 3rd strongest paddler in our boat behind the guide and me (the other two guys on the boat were let's just say lacking). In the picture to the left we are doing well and have just began down the river.

The next photo shows us as we are about to enter the largest rapid in 1st big rapid section. As you can tell by the look on everyone's face (note even the guide's face) it was a doozie. (You can DOUBLE CLICK on each photo to make them larger).

In the second photo, the wheels are starting to come off. Please do not overlook the important facts of the photo. Going into the rapid our guide has told us all to paddle full steam ahead. At about this point, everyone in the raft has abandoned this idea (including the guide who is holding onto the rope) EXCEPT Amy (she is ready to paddle on through, no biggie).
Needless to say, it did not work. This is where we learned that when wheels really fall off, the best thing you can do is huddle in the middle of boat and hope for the best.

The next photo shows the guide and me grabbing Amy. We got her and everything was fine.

Eventually, we did get better and where able to paddle through some of tougher ones, which are shown below. The zip tours where fine (and I would recommend) but for my money, you can't beat a good float. Tonight, we are going to view the Arenal lava flow and also go out on the town, so watch out La Fortuna.
