Great Weekend!

Joel and I had a really great weekend with the kids.  We didn't do anything in particular (other than Joel running the half-marathon discussed below), but it was just a lot of fun and no kid related drama.  They are both getting to new and fun phases in their respective developments.  Cole Reynolds is constantly making us laugh with what he says (when he isn't busy whining about something), and Gemma is starting to be a little explorer now that she is on the go.

Saturday was the first time I can remember since at least 1999 that an OU football game came and went before it was even part of my consciousness.  For years and years, I circled the dates on my calendar months in advance and waited with such enthusiasm for kickoff.  Well, throw kids into the equation and things changed.  Slowly at first, but now Sooner Football is becoming more of a side-show in my life than a main event as it has been for over a decade.  Guess at least my priorities are straight.

Sunday, Joel ran a half marathon.  He insisted that we didn't need to go cheer him on because it was far from his first half marathon, but I knew it would make him happy to see Cole.  So, Joel's mom came down and watched Gemma so Cole I and could go cheer on Joel.  As I suspected, both boys enjoyed the experience of us being there.  For those who know me well, you know that running is NOT on my list of aspirations.  I just was not made to run--and I truly believe that your were or weren't.  Notwithstanding, watching all those runners finish the race is pretty inspiring.  It really made me wish, even for a moment, that I "was" a runner.  Cole refused to pose for a picture and Joel was not overly interested in bending down, so this is as good as it gets (Note the skeleton pjs....we got more than a couple "Why does he get to wear his Halloween costume?" or "Look, he has his Halloween costume on!" comments.)
