All the food in the Virgin Islands is imported, even the fish which explains why the food here generally sucks. While you may not starve to death, we have yet to finish a meal and think 'wow' that really hit the spot. Pretty much any decent place in Dallas has better food than any place in the Virgin Islands. The Roman's gastronomic adventures ranged fromt the Ritz to little beach bars. All of which came to one conclusion:
Come to the Virgin Islands for the ocean, views, sea life and beaches and eat just to survive.
Some Tips:
1) Eat at the beach bars, that way when the food isn't great at least you can look out at the water and think that you are at least enjoying the view. Plus beach bars often have live music which really helps to capture the island soul.

2) Drink a lot at every meal (water, beer, rum...seriously - all of it)
3) Eat the beef. Every menu has some fish options and since you are next to the water (Rule #1) you think that the fish must be the freshest ie. best. Wrong. A good old fashioned burger is the most consistent thing we found here. We have eaten no less than 1 burger per person per day since discovery of this 'secret'.
1. Soggy Dollar - Jost Van Dyke, BVI
2. Isles Blues - Coral Bay, St. Johns, USVI
3. Iggy's Beach Bar - Bolongo Bay, St. Thomas, USVI4. Latitude 18 - Red Hook (area), St. Thomas, USVI
Disclaimer: The one place we didn't try that seemed to be everyone's favorite (including the Ray's who were here a year or two back) was the Old Stone Farmhouse--unfortunately it was closed during our visit for renovations.
