Tuesday

This morning Amy and I went for a 2 tank dive off of Lovango Cay, an uninhabited island near St. John's. Amy does not SCUBA dive, but accompanied me just to enjoy the boat ride, take pictures and snorkel while we were diving. Well at least she enjoyed the ride, no photos and no snorkeling. In her defense, the winds were up making the snorkeling less appealing but I really wanted to post a picture of me in my gear. Oh well, maybe next time.

The dives were pretty uneventful. Several schools of reef fish, a few barracudas and smallish squid, but the water was very warm and perfectly clear.

In the afternoon, we drove to Charlotte Amalie for some tax-free shopping. (Charlotte Amalie is the capital of the US Virgin Islands and was founded in the late 1600's, historically a haven for pirates now it is a haven for Cruise Ships. On this particular day there were 3 Carnival Cruise ships at port all presumably filled with people from Alabama & Mississippi - Roll Tide) Amy was really certain she needed diaper-bag sized Louis Vuitton purse but I sensed some a lack of conviction and told her to think about while we shopped around some more. After some stops at Cartier and Tiffany's, she wasn't so sure about Mr. Vuitton. So four hours and a diet coke / bottled water later, we got in the car and headed back to Red Hook. Huge Success!
